Ashley Meeder

Polikoff-Gautreaux Fellow

Ashley is a Polikoff-Gautreaux Fellow on Impact for Equity’s housing team. She has focused her personal and professional life on helping people navigate complicated systems and overcome the interconnected barriers of systemic oppression.

Ashley received her JD cum laude from the University of Minnesota, where she was a student clinic director at the Binger Center for New Americans and an intern with the Research, Education, and Advocacy team at the Advocates for Human Rights. She also volunteered with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s housing team, the Minnesota Justice Foundation’s Street Law program, and Legal Aid Chicago’s immigration team. She was recognized for her commitment to service as the 2021 recipient of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Bernard P. Becker Law Student Award and the University of Minnesota’s Class of 2022 Excellence in Public Service Award.

Through her clinical work and volunteer positions, Ashley has helped noncitizens secure release from unconstitutionally prolonged detention and represented clients before administrative agencies, federal district courts, and the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Eighth Circuits. She has also researched the historical roots of collateral consequences of the criminal legal system and analyzed their present-day racially disparate effects on access to safe and affordable housing.
