BPI Files Brief in Cook County Inspector General Case

Blanchard Berrios graphic blueCan the Cook County Inspector General investigate possible corruption in the Cook County Assessor’s office?  No, says the Assessor, because under the Illinois Constitution he’s independently elected and therefore not part of “county” government. Yes, says the Inspector General, because the Assessor – though elected — is a county officer, not a separate unit of government.

Would you believe that this important question has never before been addressed by an Illinois court?  Representing the Inspector General, BPI filed its brief in the Illinois Supreme Court on June 30, 2016, having won in both the trial and appellate courts.  We look forward to a final resolution in the forthcoming term of the Supreme Court.
